I think I miss spoke. Maybe I should have said “trolls have convinced people the down voting on this site is discouraged and has negative consequences so people have fallen out of the habit of down voting and up voting.“
Either way, people are not up voting content enough and it is fucking up your websites ability to sort content. You need to actively encourage people to up-vote.

Yes. I offer criticism with love and respect. There are not too many people or their projects that I bother to criticize. On the other hand it is important that we do not become imbeciles fencing at each other holding chopsticks.

Exactly what happened to me and I'm still confused. Dunno if it was trolls but at the times I saw it being talked about no one really came out and said no it's okay to downvote.
