I think it might be a state thing (California... yeah I know) but it seems you can't just legally sell a dog, so all the craigslist or social media ads for pets have a "rehoming fee" that by sheer coincidence just happens to go up or down based on the market demand for that breed of dog.

Their stupid laws never fix whatever imagined problems there are. Sometimes they make it worse but it almost seems more asinine when it does literally nothing at all.
