Everything is about "adopting" or "fostering" the dog. Rather than referring to the one buying the dog as the "owner", or "master" (God forbid), you're the dog's "human".

I am a dog lover, I have 2. I have had 2 or more for many years.

I work with a woman who had 2 border collies. One dog had a tumor and was expected to die even with surgery to remove the tumor. The tumor was in the dog’s hip joint. My coworker had the surgery done on an 8 year old dog for $13k. Then after a month of recovery for this poor animal it can’t go to the bathroom by itself. The vet showed them how to express its bladder. Within a day the coworker had expressed the bladder to the point that they ruptured it and had to have the dog put down.
