Maybe Utopia is predictive programming. Or maybe it is the result of an upwelling in the zeitgeist warning us of things to come. I've long believed this about the zombie movie craze. How can we explain the obsession Hollywood has with zombies? It exists because the general public wants to see zombie movies. Why? Because something in the zeitgeist is telling them that the threat of a zombie apocalypse, in some form or another, is very real.
I think I agree with you on zombie movies to some extent. Another possibility is to normalize disease and despair, so when it starts to happen people think it's cool, until it's too late. Jolly heretic had an interesting take too, though it's more a cultural apocalypse: https://youtu.be/bKLW52qHSSU
A lot of zombie movies also put the government or the cdc as the last great hope to save mankind. In The Walking Dead earlier season the cdc was trying to cure shit but ultimately did disappoint people. That show is unwatchable these days.
28 Days Later did this same thing in a really twisted but interesting way. That movie portrayed the military as 90% "these guys are bad" because they're trying to take the women away from the protagonist hero. Interesting to note the love interest is interracial. The younger female that is drugged and threatened with rape is of course, childlike blonde girl. What a coincidence. Anyway the military is shown as kind of villans and they ultimately e lose to the hero who embraces his inner zombie and starts gouging eyes and and raging out. We empathize with our hero but that remaining 10% of the implied subliminal message is that the military fortress is likely one of humanities last hopes to defend and repopulate the earth. In other words they are portrayed as the utilitarian practical solution. Our hero of course wins out and it's all rainbows, cottages and planes in the sky for him but the audience is left questioning.
