I predict that as degrees become less and less useful as a prediction of ability to do work, companies will start going back to apprenticeships.
This is what I have been hoping for the past few years because I have great diversified work experience and knowledge because I found working right away more valuable than school. Especially when you can teach yourself today.
There's also a type of course emerging where the lectures are optional, if you know the material you can skip straight to the exam and move on to the next class. They're typically online and aimed at mature students.
I actually tested out of all my first year classes EXCEPT the mandatory Microsoft Office course which I failed the opt out test because I failed the Word portion but passed the Excel Access and IE portions. Like it was some bullshit about making flyers for the office bulletin board and shit. It's been over 20 years and I still can't believe how stupid that was. I was taki g C and VB courses with sophomores and juniors and had to learn how to be a secretary.
