The IRS makes it almost impossible to fight it. You can appeal, but if you lose they tack on interest and late fees. If they lose, you get some money back BUT you have to then take that money they give you and add it as taxable income as interest proceeds. Both ways, you will lose the fight
At that point I would just move across the earth. Fuck paying scumbags like that - only contributing to the purchasing power of the people that are trying to fuck you over for being born.
Yeah its complicated. They wanted to get their paws into an inheritance/tax free payout i received. They couldnt directly get to it, so they used a very dubious claim that i hadnt filed something properly, and fined me 5% a day plus fees.
Wouldn't it have been worth it to get a lawyer to fight it? Unless of course it's not possible to have them pay your lawyers fees when they lose. I don't really know much about how the IRS works. All I know is that taxation is theft.
