I had a falling out with a friend many years ago, and we did try to repair the friendship but it was never really the same and I gave up first although I still get the occasional call when there's good news. I'm genuinely happy about the news but my ability to have a real conversation hits a wall. The conflict that caused the problem highlighted an issue that had been overlooked and really shouldn't have been.

I'll venture to say that you were doing the same thing I was, ignoring some things that indicated a big issue. Your friend still thought Hillary was going to prison and Trump is president. There really isn't any viable reason to think either of those things are true, but a lot of hopium, while accusing you of living in a fantasy.
