Buy land.

Build a structure to be the family library. A small study/shelving shack.

Write a book that you want your decendants to read.

Make it a family requirement for everyone to at least publish one book into the family library. Anyone from your bloodline can enter and read first hand accounts of their ancestors ideals and experiences.

The only bias in your set of family books is that they have your best interest at heart.

None of my relatives did this for me. My grandfather is a little bitch and the more I was told about his father the more I felt connected to my great-grandfather. If he left a book behind i would have had a way to bond with the dead and get to know him better. Instead he's practically a stranger I only heard a few negative stories from by his ungrateful son.

Over the generations they can expand and build the library into something great as they continue to contribute.

No matter how much time passes, your decendents will be eternally grateful that you were the one who started it for them. They'll never feel lonely when they have generations of their ancestors passing down knowledge and sharing family tales one page flip away.

That truly is the best idea I've seen on here!

I'm sorry you didn't have a good grandpa. You really missed out and no fault of your own.

I had 2 of the best grandpa's ever! One a very kindly gentleman. He made sure to pass down to all his grandsons important information, like the proper place for both men and women, and never relax...!

The other was my best friend! He would come over very early in the morning and talk my mother into letting him keep me out of school. Then we would go fishing or spend the day cleaning our guns preparing for a hunting trip. He tried to teach me how to make Good shine! I learned so much more from him than I ever did in a classroom!

I mourn them both daily and they have been gone for years!

What I would give to have their written words to read any time I wanted!

Great idea! Thank you!

Your first book can be about them both. Then you can focus on one about you.

You're welcome! I honestly don't understand why it's not common for families to leave behind books. We learned all the time as children about cultures that pass down "tales" and "stories" and "myths", but then all the stories getting passed down stopped. Now we leave it to Hollywood to tell all the tales and we don't create anything.
