Religion evolved so that all members of a society could coodinate based on a common set of rules. The justification for those rules —e.g. The sky father wants me to do this— is not what is important. The important thing in the evolution of that society is how useful the rules are and how well they are observed.
You want to build a society where everyone worships themself? Haha, good luck with that. That is just jewish humanism. “Lets all just agree to use our best judgement and not be mean” —recipe for chaos and disaster. People cant be left to decide for themselves whether a thing is right or wrong. That is exactly what is causing the current fucking disaster.
Individuals will rationalize whatever they want to do whether it screws over their neighbor or not. I may be that you cannot get consistent results of responsible unselfish behavior without threatening people with eternal damnation or the wrath of god. That is a strategy proven to work. The threat of divine justice and reward has been proven to get white people to cooperate and march in to battle against enemies.

Try to imagine that evolution is a thing. How do you think white people got to be white people? They followed an evolutionary strategy. How did they enforce it? Religion.
Religion was one of the most important things we developed because it gave permanence beyond strength of rule.

So some smart charlatans figured out if we get people to believe in a permanent immortal "stronger" that taught rules to live by, we could have better leadership and rules that lasted beyond whoever was the strongest. It didn't matter what the religion was, as long as it worked and people believed.
Religion was vitally important for the development of civilization and we wouldn't be human without it.

There is always a balance between might makes right and egalitarianism in any society. No single society is all one or the other. There are trade offs with both.

I dont think you recognize religious behavior in yourself when you see it but you should. Do you have a sense of right and wrong? Do you believe you should follow laws? Do you swear? Do you think its okay to fuck your sister if you use a condom? There is no rational reason you shouldnt do that if there was no chance of knocking your sister up. But you still wouldnt do it. Ask yourself why?
You aren’t a rational creature. Rational thought is not an efficient operating system for humans. Religion is. And you cant get away from it. Its how your brain works.
