What good is a furnace if the electricity is out and the natural gas lines are frozen?
Why the hell would the natural gas lines be frozen? It wasn't that fucking cold!
Moisture in the natural gas lines froze and clogged lines. It's a thing. Look it up.
I assume that the lines were not buried below the frost line, like we do up north. Or maybe they don't have a frost line in Texas??? Something like that.

I live in a very rural area of the Pacific Northwest. Every year I prepare for power outages, because we always have them. The city dwellers never think about that because it rarely happens. It would be interesting to see what would happen to Seattle without power for a week.
Power sub stations are not protected well at all and would set a city into the dark ages if you took out three of them around the city.
