Now watch the show.
I suspect they fucked Firefly intentionally because it was hitting too close to home. The show was first aired in an 11 PM timeslot with the episodes out of order. There is no fucking way that was an accident. They did not want this to become popular.
I remember! That made it seem dumb and weird and hokey and we eventually stopped watching. Then one day my dad calls and says we have to watch this cool show he got all the episodes of on DVD or something... and eventually we do and roll our eyes and are all, "DAAD, we saw this dorky thing. It's corny and weird!"
Well anyway, we watched it and could not stop watching! Pretty sure we all stayed up all night watching as many episodes as we could until we couldn't understand what was happening any longer due to extreme sleepy-stoopidness.
TL;DR : you're correct. It is awesome.
Probably.
Are you on Cali time? It aired sometime in the 7-10 slot on FOX.
I was in NY back then.
Yeah, always wondered about that. When it aired originally, I thought it looked stupid. Fox's advertising didn't help; it almost came off as "Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but in space" and I was instantly turned off.
Fast forward a few years (after Fox killed it but well before the movie) and 1. I'm bored as fuck; 2. I found the DVD box set on sale. Took a chance on it and finally understood the hype.
Also, I kinda got the sense that the movie was the entire intended plot of the series, condensed inton2 hours. Anyone else?
The movie was supposed to finish out what the first season was going to cover.
I think when word got uphill that there was going to be a thing about mass drugging the air supply causing ultra violence in the population, the parallels with SSRIs and other substances were going to be a subject of discussion. This cannot happen.
