I really thought we would never have an ideological purge in the US. I thought we had learnt from the past, from the Holodomor and Mao and Pol Pot. But now that I think about it, I bet all those people who got purged also thought they had learned from the past.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, who resisted communism, was warned that if he brought up the past he would lose an eye.. His response was, if you forget the past you will lose both eyes.
