I really thought we would never have an ideological purge in the US. I thought we had learnt from the past, from the Holodomor and Mao and Pol Pot. But now that I think about it, I bet all those people who got purged also thought they had learned from the past.

They did learn from history. They studied the mistakes and learned how to get away with it better. Brainwash the masses better. Control the flow of information better. Things on devices can be edited much easier than books or print can.
