I was doing a contract job in a bed manufacturing plant today up on a lift about 20' running some data. When I came down, an asshole off the line walks up to me and asks why I'm not wearing my mask. Cause it's hot up there and it's fogging up my safety glasses. Mumbles something something, doesn't matter something something. Get back in the lift and say loud enough, wear your mask I don't care, but don't ask me about my business. He shot me a look so I know he heard me. I proceeded most of the job without it on, especially up in the fucking air. Just strapped underneath my chin. Was told another time by a manger type, I just nod, put it on.
This is fucked. So I'm checking out the whole production today, guys making beds, working mostly by themselves at their stations and everyone is masked. Company policy you know. Must have been a 10,000 sq ft warehouse or more, maybe 40 people. There is zero fucking common sense, no push back. Who the fuck am I going to breathe on while up 20' in a lift? Or any of these people working 8hrs in one spot alone? I spent 6 hrs there today with the mask off and on, there could be no way I could endure it for 8hrs every goddamned day. I think I would kill someone. (figuratively speaking). Up in an attic in the dog days of summer running cables through insulation? Yup, I'll wear one but this bullshit is downright insulting of one's intelligence.
Further, I was at a construction site last week to do a survey. Just the bare minimum developed and everyone is outside, wearing masks! It was the construction company's policy. standard ppe and a MASK. Outside. smh. Just where the FUCK do these fucking morons think your exhaled air goes? But that's the thing, they're not morons. They're intelligent people working there and everywhere. Am I the only son of a bitch who tries to see how much I can get away with? That is the beauty of being self-employed I must say. Yes, if the customer asks me to wear one, I will, for awhile. Until he asks me again. And even a third time. lol. But they usually don't. I learned not to argue just put it on and make it look like you're playing along, it pacifies them enough that you can take it off and they won't say shit. That's the customer mind you, not the karen low skill worker. Others who aren't Karens that have to wear one usually don't say anything to me either. I've only had two idiots go out of their way to remind me of the "rules" , otherwise I just work away and not wear it it, and I make it known I don't give a fuck. They don't bother me. lol. Being your own boss in the time of Covid is priceless.
