OI think you misconstrued the point I was making, so I will try to clarify.
Brainlets are attracted to any space where they will meet no challenge. If a brainlet believes water causes cancer, they will go to a “water truther” forum with a rule “this is for water truthers only, anti water truth will be banned”.
If the “water truther” forum allows all views, but wants conversation focused on “water truth”, then the mod should of course ban off topic shit posting and spamming, after all the true roll of a mod is a janitor.
In a “water truther” forum that allows dissent, the brainlet will be repeatedly challenged and discouraged from posting without learning up and improving their ability to argue and debate. This will both sharpen their mind and potentially reveal to them if “water truth” is a good idea anyways.
The mark of a true brainlet is not a lack of a potential, but a lack of a desire to grow and expand their mind. In the way described, a forum about a topic that does not allow ideological dissent never forces growth on its users and they become lazy brainlets, decreasing the quality of the content.
A forum that allows ideological dissent forces brainlets to actually grow, and front and center you get high quality posts and memes.
You need competition to produce quality, otherwise you get low effort shit.
And I care because what we are doing right now is debating viewpoints, repeating “nuh uh” isn’t an argument, neither is just declaring the other side wrong, it’s tacky and cringe. Build a case for your side or come up with compelling counter points against mine, but most of all don’t be boring.
My argument is simply this:
Your points are, in general, accurate. I love arguing online for the very reasons you've laid out.
But you said it yourself: "force intellectual growth". I don't agree that a sub-owner, operating within the terms of this website, has to allow all users, whether they are dissenting opinions, jews, retards, etc.
Do brainlets only debate flat-earth on flat-earth forums? No, they may run back there and hide, but for those ready to grow they can bring their arguments out of hiding.
I have more thoughts but I'm at work.
I think we agree far more than we disagree, but you feel owners deserve more control in that then I do.
Yah I hear yah man, I’m at work too. Typing this out on my phone while getting a piece of equipment to cooperate, but I have down time between each attempt and don’t feel like fuck’n with work email at the moment.
We do.
I've just seen sub owners self-immolate and it's kinda like the natural selection you mention. Places like this aren't like reddit, they only look alike.
Anyway, cheers. Have a good day
