This is a major Communist tactic, developed by the labor movements of the 19th and 20th centuries.
It is still used today, because it works so very well.
If you suffer from commie takeover of your workplace, and you need that job, or cannot risk looking for another, then no need to quit, no need to go on strike. Just slow down your work by half. Become a stickler for the rules. Insist that you follow them to the letter. Try to impose this on the others around you. Ask for frequent managerial interpretation and clarification. Keep the managers busy. You are just another mindless normie, incapable of initiative.
It's an asshole play, I know, but it also works. It cuts productivity to the bone. The truth is, the vast majority of profitability comes out of highly motivated workforces. The little things that humans do every day, often at a subconscious level, that grease the wheels of production and help things to run smoothly and effectively. As soon as you follow the rules to the letter, and then deliberately slow down, the machine goes off the rails.
They want you to be a slave workforce? Fine. Work like one. They will incur losses. Free workplaces will race past them, and these same operations will attract all of the investment capital.
I recall in my studies a quote from a Russian worker about living under Communism that went something like this: "They pretend to pay us, and we pretend to work." They couldn't even feed themselves, in spite of having perhaps the most fertile land on the planet.
