My better half works in the mortgage industry and sees ppls incomes, job descriptions, and other specifics. One application came in for a loan, and what stood out on the application is in the section for income it was listed as ‘unemployed’. Verry unusual to put on an application for a loan. Phone contact found a gentleman approx. in his 60s and on the verge of retirement. He was 2/3rds into building his retirement home and needed the loan to cover the rest. Further inquiry about the lack of employment found my wife on the phone with an gentleman whose initial tone was formal and sturdy, but the conversation quickly graduated into a tearful recollection as he explained. The gentleman was a senior engineer for a major company. He was assigned a new female engineer in her 20’s to his team and to mentor her. His project at the time delt with high voltage equipment. Apparently, the item had a small opening on its surface that could expose ppl to high voltage. But it was too small for normal ‘man hands’. However, the female engineer could get her hand into the space; proving that it was a hazard. He demonstrated this to upper management with her, and management approved his recommendation for a plate cover. A few weeks later, he receives the cover plates in his office. He was walking in the hallway and sees the female engineer coming his way. He says to her “Hello, I received the cover plates for that ‘hand job’ and they are in my office.” She immediately went to HR for the ‘hand job’ reference, and within a week he was fired and took his company’s pension.
I am completely in shock for this man. 30 years of excellence thrown down by HR and some stupid woman.
Now, I am in the same position with a newly minted 20 something female engineer. I am totally business with her, and do not want to know shit about her personally or otherwise. That hard-working man paid a liberal price for nothing but a misunderstanding. I did not talk to him, but my heart grieves for him and his family.
