1) Include a commonly used feature on social media sites. 2) Punish users who use that feature. 3) ?? 4) Profit?

Copied from the searchvoat forum about Voat alternatives:

"POAL was pretty bad, they didn't understand the common useage of the downvote button. I asked their Admin about that policy, and they told me that I could thumb-down posts and I would be ok as long as I wasn't predatory and went after specific users. The next think I know, I went from a positive 60 rating, to negative 100+. They claim "Say what you want" then censor you into oblivion! I don't need them! They can run their little comfort blanket circle jerk echo chamber without me!"

The main question is whether it's part of the discussion or the "heckler's veto". Sliding is definitely not intended to promote discussion. A shill will say "oh that's my free speech", but when it's clear as little effort as possible was put in in order to push as many posts as possible, that's spam. You use your better judgement as far as where to draw the line.

I encourage you to use the downvote button when you see an opportunity for its intended use.

During our discussion you expanded the definition of downvote to something even I can agree with.

The issue is that, it's not the rules. It's your interpretation. If it was in the rules, ok.

I haven't used it yet. I don't like having to be super aware of it during checking each post, so I don't engage either to upvote or downvote the way I did with vote.

I used to check news section and rate properly. The same way we are discussing now. With common sense.

Here, I don't see the reason since the whole system of rate is in my opinion, bad.

If it was as you said and interpreted. It would be better, but again, if others thought as you do, several categories here would be better and without some clear bad content, bad posts, some even garbage posts that gets a few up votes but no downvotes it all. Maybe it gets better in the future.

Maybe. In any case, if it's a flaw in the site, then it's a lot of hullabaloo being made about a minor flaw. I've been here since the site began and it seems ok.
