The algorithm that the mods have put in place is to prevent wanton abuse of the down vote, not the occasional "this is a shit post" down vote and move on. It was a tough thing for all of us to grow accustomed to but I'd go so far as to say that the majority of the community would agree that doing it this way promotes a more open discussion. And yes, I will drop a DV on a troll or an asshole every now and then.
