New York used to be fun. You could drive in, pay $4 for the tunnel, and then walk around wherever and have a cool day out, or night if you liked going to bars and clubs.

Now it’s $16 to take the Holland Tunnel. Or if you go through Staten Island to Brooklyn, $16 for the Outerbridge Crossing and then another $19 to go home over the Verrazano Bridge.

Now they have congestion fees for driving in lower Manhattan. I haven’t been in Manhattan since this started so I don’t even know how much it costs.

So if I want to go to a party in Brooklyn I’m looking at $35 in tolls and $20 in gas.. Well maybe gas is cheaper now but still. Also, the parties are more expensive. No more $10-$20 events. Shits like $40 and up. Beers are like $8 and mixed drinks can be $20. What used to be a $60 night out is now $150 or more. Concerts are no longer affordable. A mid sized band will change like $80 or more for a ticket. I haven’t been to a concert in the city in years.

I’ve pretty much given up on the city. I worked there for about 9 months in 2011 and it was fun at the time but I don’t think I’d ever do it again. We were working in the Upper East Side near the Met. It was cool to go walking in Central Park for lunch but I see no appeal in doing that again. Also did a job on the west side near the natural history museum.

I miss the grungy 90s Manhattan. Not a big fan of Brooklyn today.

It's a shame to hear such news. I hear the same stories for most cities in North America. It seems the wages went up a little but everything got way more crowded, international and far more expensive. Like NY, the city I'm living in is turning to shit and I also used to love it in the '90s. Now I just want to find a way out and live in the bush.

I live in central NJ far enough away from any urban bullshit. The closest city is New Brunswick but it’s not even fun going there anymore. Brunz used to have a thriving bar scene with local bands and music. Now there are maybe 3 bars worth checking out on a Friday night but good luck finding a good band or DJ. It’s almost like this generation of Rutgers students don’t know how to have a good time. With the Coronahoax, the bar and restaurant scene has been eliminated. I think they are gonna allow outdoor eating on June 15th. Whoopdedodaday.

I work in Pennsylvania now right along the river. It’s a 45 minute drive but there’s no traffic and I’m in the country away from any elements. If and when I move it’ll probably be into PA around Bucks county because there’s a lot of work in the trades there. No shortage of old houses to fix up and rich people that buy them.

If my old Jeep wasn’t slightly hurtin, need new tires and a good tune up, I’d probably drive into Manhattan to explore the carnage. I remember going into the city 1 week after 9/11. It smelled awful. Like burning concrete and chemicals.

There are a few small bars that are still cool but it’s not worth the effort to go out. Not unless you plan on driving home drunk. I risked that shit when I was younger but no more. I like electronic music, so there’s the party scene, but it’s been shut down because of the stupid virus. The parties were getting pretty expensive and I don’t necessarily like the venues that are available anymore.

There are probably decent underground parties going on but I haven’t heard anything lately. It’ll probably be months before they let people get together again.

So what’s left to do in Manhattan? Go shopping? Go to a park? Go to a show? Go to a bar? Everything is on lockdown. I guess you could just walk around the city, and I like doing that, but I’m not gonna spend $60 to drive in, park, and walk around where everything is closed because of the WuFlu.
