I have a cousin who is obsessed with Pokemon. Like majorly obsessed. He travels around the country to go to Pokemon conventions, spends large amounts of money on these. Buys TONS of cards. Right now he is on his way to the pokemon world championship. He is in his 40s and he will usually leave his son at home to go to these. I don't get it. I liked playing the gameboy games but this seems a bit ridiculous.

This is the problem. It is mainly only a destructive obsession if it doesn't involve those that should be a main factor in your life. If it was only an obsession of a "virgin" with no family to involve, do your thing and waste your life as you see fit as long as it doesn't detriment those around you. Keeping your kid out of it, even though kids love it, you are scum puting your obsession above them when it could be a great bonding point, even if it isn't a great goal in the end.

Well isn't bonding what matters?

It very much is, which is the main reason this is an issue, as he is neglecting his own child.

well then it sounds like the easy solution is to get his kid some pokemon stuff.
