I needed new razors and figured why not give it a try at least. Was only 16 bucks for the razor and 5 blades.

What did you get? Ive been using my grandfathers old Gillette adjustable slim for a couple decades now, it is older than i am. I have several others but it is my favorite. There are a few/bunch of factors that go into a good shave so here are a few i have found.

Soften your face by showering first or using a warm wet rag. I only use tallow based shaving soaps, glycerin soaps just do not work for me at all. Blades are as important as the razor, everyone's face is different so there is no universal "best" blade. Some are more "aggressive" than others. I bought a multi-pack to find what i liked best, 10 bucks got me 100 blades from several different companies, they all shave differently. I use a preshave oil as i have thick hair. MCT oil is what i use Dont push/use pressure, let the weight of the handle glide across your face. For a beginner i would suggest buying an alum block for razor burn. The first few times i shaved i wrecked myself. A good after shave lotion can save you some pain. Go with the grain. One pass is often not good enough so take your time. If using shaving soaps your want thick lather so if you have lots of big bubbles you have used too much water.

Hope some of this helps, good luck to you.

You're welcome. Ive been looking at one of them, i like adjustable handles and they have a butterfly top adjustable that looks pretty nice and is very inexpensive.
