I am a recent migrant from voat. I was with that site from its old whoverse days. I watched it grow, watched it almost die when the pedophiles migrated over from reddit (I left it for a while at that point until it sorted that mess out). Came back to see it move wayyyyyyy to the right when the Internet censorship started to come down (wasn’t J-woke at that point). Eventually I walked away permanently when it became obvious the site was circling the drain and nothing more than a stagnating Fed infested honey pot. I left Reddit a long time ago because it is just a pisshole filled with self congratulating faggots all trying to out virtue signal each other for the sake of imaginary internet points..... Poal reminds me of the old days of voat. I also like how invested the admins are with the site. Really liking the poalcast (although I would fucking LOVE it if you chaps could get an RSS feed of it so I can get it on my podcast player to listen to at work). i migrated two years ago roughly, (wow its been that long already?) simply put, voat is anti-authoritarian and right wing, reddit is authoritarian and left wing. Apparently authoritarian right wing is a bad thing both on reddit and voat, regardless of what voat says it wants, when exactly that would drive the leftists away by both design and action of the mods. But allowing them to exist on voat when we are not allowed to exist on reddit is fair play according to voat.
Simply put, there exists no place on the internet for authoritarian right wing, which alienates me considerably. Only thing i can do is lurk, sit back and only comment when i feel strongly about something. Otherwise its just not worth the effort.

The site owners, as far as I know, have some political opinions, but they don't actively suppress opposing opinions, because Poal.co is made for censorship-less freedom.

depends on the details of who the authority is and how they decide rules are to be enforced. There is a spectrium that includes facism, but that would include left wing ideals, as the nazi's did, as the communists did. Right wing authoritarian would be something else. I'm not sure if there are words to describe it.

I never really used reddit myself. I only asked a few questions or posted a few things myself and that was it. I never really used it though.
It was helpful though if I had some type of very specific question to just get it answered then delete my account or delete my account after a few months since I stopped asking questions about technology related things and why this doesn't work. Other than that reddit is just a time sink like an MMORPG (WoW or Runescape) and that's about it. Much of it just random photos of cats or dogs to which gets old and isn't really useful at all per say. Everyone knows that reddit just got way to extreme with it's measures and died off and I think youtube / jewtube is next since it keeps jewing it's users heavily.

voat just wasn't for me. I didn't have problems with anyone on the website personally myself, but it wasn't for me.

I live out in kind of a rural / urban place where it's a ton of wooded area, but it's connected to a couple of cities with like 20k in population combined. I have woods in the backyard myself and no houses for like 200-300 feet at least. Roughly a month ago I woke up with something screaming in my attic. It was a real scream (super load to like a screaming / shrieking banshee maybe) and I was completely awake myself after being in a light sleep since I didn't fall to sleep at 4:30 A.M. or so.
I also heard something last night that appeared to be a beast and it was 3:05 A.M. or so and I heard it running around in the backyard and it was making noises and it sounded loud for the most part.
I want to get my trail cam up to see exactly what it is and I know I will encounter animals, but I know myself that I'm encountering something for real to as well.
