So I moved up the the area my wifes parents live in, that is a story in and of itself so I won't get into that one this time. I had sold my business before we moved and wanted to try doing something else for work, I figured I would just pick something start at the bottom and work my way up. So I went and got a job selling auto parts, pay was shit but I managed to make manager pretty quickly. That is really neither here nor there for this story but there it is. Well I work at this place for 6 months and everyday on my drive to work I drive past this car, this Daewoo that is just sitting in this persons yard with the spare tire on it. It is just sitting, same spot everyday almost for 6 months. So I wanted another car as I only had one between me and my wife at the time. So I decide to go and ask the owner if they want the car. Well I knock on the door and the guy comes out and says and I quote "If you can get the piece of shit off my property it is yours" so I think to myself, jackpot. So before work one day(I was the night manager at this point) I go over and get the key and take some jumper cables. I hook the cables up and the thing starts up, it runs like shit. Really like this thing is missing bad, it will barely idle. However it runs, so unhook the cables and jump in, no brakes pedal goes straight to the floor. Well its a manual so I think to myself, self just downshift and use the e brake it'll be fine. So I drive the POS to work with no plate on it. I made it there with only a couple close calls. So I work my shift and 10pm rolls around its friday night cops are out, I have to get the damn car home now. So I decide I'll just chance it and try and drive home. Miraculously I didn't get pulled over. So now I have this car I got for free and I am super happy. I get all the filters(gotta love that employee discount) plugs wires cap rotor and everything for an oil change, can of seafoam some lucas injector cleaner and a gas cap. I spend about 2 hours installed all that stuff and then I take it down to the mechanic and get the AC charged. Well someone cut the damn wires to the AC Compressor clutch. So I put it up on the lift and solder the wires back together and heat shrink those bad boys thinking there is no way this is going to work. Well it actually did. I lucked out with this car over and over. Well had it for over 2 years now and I needed to change an inner tie rod. That bitch was litterally fused to the rack and pinion. So I decided to change that, this was probably a mistake. It took way too long and I now question if Korean people can really make cars anymore. So really over all the moral of the story is, if something is sitting and not being used ask the owner if they want it, then when a big enough problem happens with said thing, ask yourself if maybe its time to pass it on too the next guy.

And thats my story I hope someone enjoys it. Also no matter what a stripper tells you there is no sex in the champaign room.

But if you're trying get a car running AC is sort of the last thing I care about? To each their own I guess, and it depends on where you live... Texas is different than Ontario...

Oh in the summer you want ac especially if the kids are riding in it. Worse case scenario I use the 470 ac.

I hopre there's at least champagne in the champagne room.

[–] 2 pts

O..there's champagne in the Champagne Room. But definitely no sex. None.

There is no champaign in the champaign room. Only cuddly companionship. And meth. or so I've heard

And with a Daewoo of all things!

I can definitely appreciate that. I've kept chickens for years but I've never actually had to paid for any, people just get over the fad and give them away.

A bunch of building materials too. I got probably a few thousand dollars in hard maple 2x4s that just needed nails pulled (fyi doing it in the rain made it easier).

I love seeing stuff people are not going to use that is still good getting put to use rather than thrown out. So many people waste so much stuff its insane.

And if I'm putting two and two together correctly, this same 'lucky' freebe car also got you a job when you needed one. You were born under a lucky star, dude! Coming from a family of scroungers myself, I never see that term as derogatory. It's more that some of us make our own luck by taking advantage of situations others never see. Kudus to you for all the work that made that 'luck' happen! Have a bubbly glass of champagne! LOL

I suppose you are correct. I guess I’m luckier than I thought.
