Personally I prefer matrix because I can host it myself and I keep the whole thing encrypted so even if the cops showed up and wanted records I couldn't give it too them even if I wanted too. My matrix server is locked down tighter than. well I can't think of a metaphor but you get the idea. Matrix does chat and voice and video.
