Hope this is for work and you have no choice? I ran as fast as I could from windows after the forced updates a few months ago. Linux Mint Cinnamon bro. Boot from livecd/usb and check it out if you can get everything working that you need. If so, install to hard drive and never use MS again.

Would really love to just say, "Fuck it," and learn Linux, but my partners are average tech users. It's gonna have to be Windows.
I hear you, I really do. I've been using Unix since the 90s and I still used Windows as my main PC for a long time. Every few years I would try to make the switch, but something just wouldn't work right. Now with so much being web based, and the continual improvement of Linux desktop environments, I was finally able to make the switch.
Just give it a try yourself using boot CD/USB. Totally safe to test drive. Won't mess up Windows at all. You can even configure things and install apps. See if there is any chance you or your partners could make the switch. If there is, let them try the boot thing too.
What i did was make a list of what apps / features I needed then went through the list in the boot CD/USB environment. Once I knew I could get everything working, I just installed on my Windows disk. Key apps for me were office, Google Earth, Teamviewer and a few others like Boxcryptor. Everything worked and have been very happy with the performance and stability of Linux as my main PC.
Plus it's free!
I'll give it a shot once I have some time. Thanks.
