Used to be a redditor, went to Voat after the Ellen Pao fiasco.

When I first went to voat, it was much like it is here. real news being discussed.

Then came the DDOSes, and the take down requests, THEN the first admin "suddenly" decided he was "doing too much" and "voluntarily" stepped down from running the site and let and new "Admin" take over.

conveninently around the same time, racist sub reddits were banned and the ALL went to voat shouting racial slurs at the top of the lungs 24/7

A lot of these guys were outed as shills (ez to tell when you looked at their post history and frequency...nobody who has a job posts that much)

Unfortunately, the dammage was done, and new members stopped coming to the site after seeing all the "Racists" (shills) filling up the front page 24/7

Now the canary has finally died . . .of course the site was dead long before that.

Don't let that happen here.

I think the problems occur when humor becomes anger and leads to angry threads where reason is tossed aside. Very little of that happens on Poal, currently. I hope Poal stays friendly, as Voat is annoying as hell and has been for over a year.

I agree with this. I don't mind he actual racists, most of them don't foam at the mouth 24/7 On the internet. all I really want is a way to get the news. . .the REAL news that's happening, not 50 angry threads that are made to incite more anger. That's just gonna give TPTB an excuse for an "active shooter" who just happens to be a trump supporter/websitexyz user/to the right of Stalin. Those threads also kill any new user base from growing, ensuring that less and less people get the real news, which in turn will give more people the chance to vote as a better informed citizen. 500000 threads of stupid b.s. takes that away, dilutes the real news and gives people a reason to either: a)get new people to vote better B)entertain more possibilities for PEACEFUL change.
