Remote control. I have a lappy next to TV running Kodi, I have another lappy next to couch. On couch lappy I open browser and go to IP ...:**** and control Kodi from there. I already had a phone app [Kore] for it, but wanted larger screen.
Ah ok cool! I use a pi and Kodi works via the TV remote which is the best for me. I did use an app on my phone when I had a TV that didn't support the remote control option which was ok, but man, the remote is the best.
What to look for in TV's to have what you have?
Here you go! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consumer_Electronics_Control
The remote can browse Kodi directories / links with arrow keys, can go "back" etc, but most importantly can play / pause / stop and fast forward / next and all that. I have dietpi that autoboots into Kodi. I never touch a keyboard or mouse at all! I use a PC to download stuff to the pi's USB, but also have incursion / gaia and all that setup in Kodi too. It is a sweet setup.
You don't even have to configure the pi or Kodi. It just works. I think in the TV settings you need to enable the CEC or put on auto. And need a good HDMI cable that supports it IIRC.
