That's not why. I can tell you why.
Because we all speak more than one language and so have a reason to work for OSC, which is an on ramp to CIA. Because we don't drink or do drugs and neither do any of our family members. To be in the CIA you have to be unextortable and that includes your family members being unextortable. Any connection to drugs by yourself or a family member kind of rules that out. Tell me, how many families in America can provide relatively verifiable proof that none of them have ever used drugs? The CIA is a family business and generally you have to have a family member in it already. Because LDS have such large families its more likely that the CIA can find a viable employee within another employee's immediate family. The CIA also has a narrow recruitment staff (how narrow I can't get away with telling you) who select people that they know personally from unrelated association to prevent social engineering. This means if you grow up knowing their kids you are more likely to have a connection with the very very narrow recruitment staff. That's more likely if you went to church with their kids, and got hired to babysit their kids when you were a teenager.
You don't just apply to the CIA. Any spy would do that. You also don't just research who the recruiters are and then attempt to foster a relationship with one. That would be suspicious and would be what a spy would do. They have to know you naturally. Knowing them from church is one way. There is another way that recruiters actively try to foster relationships themselves, but that is more targetable so I'll not talk about that.
Sounds like nepotism to me. (((Who))) else heavily practices nepotism? Couldn't you just turn the lights off to see if they glow in the dark?
But that has nothing to do with us and has everything to do with how the CIA operates. There is no way to run the CIA without nepotism. An open application process would just lead to spies. The nepotism happened to select us because, another consideration, in the 70s the CIA wanted to recruit out of universities. Most universities were overrun with hippies that they couldn't trust. BYU was 100% hippy free. So where did they go? BYU. That ended up being intergenerational because of the CIA's choice to operate on nepotism.
We absolutely don't own the CIA. The CIA uses us. As an ancap I'm not for the CIA at all and wish I didn't have family in it. I try my best to discourage government work within church. But like most Americans, 90% of LDS don't understand that the government is evil, so they don't think sufficiently when considering repeating their father's career path.
