Hoffman is specifically a Jewish surname. It's an invented German surname that means "Hope-man". I've never heard of an ethnic German being called that.
Other than that the overreaction, the involvement of an anti-jewish group and the photographs of the guards made me conclude they were jewish. I could be wrong about Clutts but I seriously doubt I am about Hoffmann.
