Eww redditard link...
I know all about this. I've seen the photos. I know what they did. But I agree with McDonald's. McDonald's served millions of cups of hot coffee, and she was the only one to injure herself in such a way, meaning she was the exception. I mean, she put hot coffee between her legs, and wasn't smart enough to get the lid off without burning herself. She was the one that made the mistake.
However, McDonald's shouldn't have resisted paying her medical bills, and giving her extra money to recover. Then they should have immediately changed how they served coffee. Make it a little cooler, and have workers put in the sugar, and cream.
According to these guys the coffee was hotter than usual, much hotter.
Why should McDonald's have to change things for everyone because of one incompetent? Hotter water extracts more flavor. The simpler solution would be to leave her free to discover her own limitations. This woman was too stupid for take out coffee.
It can also burn the coffee bean making it bitter. And being a barista inside a sedan isn’t realistic.
McDonalds is a precisely designed food machine. The temp of the coffee was designed to extract the most flavor. The lady in the sedan didn't need to be a barista, she only needed to be a mammal with a functioning opposable thumb. We need to start asking people to be responsible for their own behavior and not asking the world to change for them.
It wasn't one person who got injured, it was one who sued. During the trial they showed that a bunch of people were getting injured and complaining and McDonalds ignored it so they were found to be negligent.
Pouring hot coffee on your crotch will burn your junk. News at 11
No, she wasn't the only one to injure herself. Thats why the initial amt was so high
That is actually not true. They had several instances prior to this and that is the reason for the lawsuit. They had knowledge that their products were injuring people, but failed to act. Get it now? Plus remember how flimsy those cups were back then?
If I remember righr, 3rd degree burns over 75 % of her body. And she originally just wanted her medical expenses paid for.
Nooo, you remember wrong
Fuck. That lady was grandma..shes going to be pissed at me.
She only burned her twat
I can't view the link unless I download the reddit app. Fuck you.
Most mobile browsers allow you to request the desktop site. Try the "hamburger" or three lines menu.
No I just inform the retard that they are retarded and move along. Since your reply was to cry, it is likely your personal reaction would be to cry. Get the dick out of your ass, you faggot.
сука блят вы глупый ниггер. ваша бабушка мои сука.
My understanding is that the procedure for making coffee there was to pressure cook it and super heat the water, then let it cool to around 190F before serving. From what I heard that procedure allegedly wasn't followed and she was served super heated coffee which made for a much more serious burn than "normal" coffee temps (which still burn effectively)
Fuckin hell she got broiled alive! Money well deserved.
Linking to reddit ftw
Yea she actually got burned to shit. Judge decided to make an example of Mcd's.
I used to joke about that case with my friends, and laughing at how stupid people can be..... but I never realized how serious it was though. Fake news doing the bidding of corporations again.
Nah. She was stupid. If I get drunk, and drive a car, and die, that's not General Motors' fault. So, the old lady put a cup of coffee between her legs, and was too dumb to take off the lid properly. That's her fault. She's a fully grown adult that can't open up a cup of coffee. It was not the norm for people to spill their coffee. She was the only doofus that injured herself like that. Maybe McDonald's was being ruthless, but they're not wrong. Are Americans so stupid that they can't take responsibility for spilling a cup of hot coffee?
And I don't always take the corporations' side, but it's obvious she fucked up. People point to the injuries, but so what? What does that change exactly? If you take something, and don't know how to use it, that's on you. If I juggle knives, and put my eye out, that's not the knife company's fault. I should've used my fucking brain.
Don't put hot coffee between your legs! She was an idiot. She was even stupid enough to lean the coffee cup towards her legs instead of the opposite way. If she literally just angled it so it would tip the other way, she wouldn't have got burned so bad. She was a fucking idiot.
People put hot coffee cups between their legs because they expect it to be below boiling temperature. And while it can still scald you it's not going to cause you long term pain, injure and disfigurement. McD's served superheated coffee meaning it was above boiling temperature. There's no reasonable way for a customer to know this or expect this without being privy to the methodology that McD's chose to use. Regardless of her carelessness with the coffee, McD's was at fault for the lack of warning which would have informed the customer that the coffee may be hotter than expectations and to use additional cautions when handling it.
Even still McD's served the coffee superheated. That on it's own is irresponsibility.
To use your analogy, you may drive a GM vehicle while drunk and be required to accept the responsibilities for doing so. That still doesn't indemnify GM from liability if the heated air coming from the heater is hot enough to give you 3rd degree burns if GM didn't warn you that normal operation may cause 3rd degree burns because the expectation is that the air from the heater will not be hot enough to injure you.
God you're fucking dense.
What if the car company like Ford had a defective tire that popped and caused a rollover? That coffee is the defective tire... check and mate.
I thought it was dumb too till i found out the lady had to have surgery on the burns
Injuries do not change the fact that she put hot coffee between her legs, and wasn't clever enough to get the lid off, and not spill it everywhere. It was her mistake. She's a fully grown adult, and couldn't do such a simple thing. The blame rests on her in spite of the injuries. You know, people juggle chainsaws, but if they cut off their hand that is not the chainsaw company's fault. If you're an idiot with something, you're to blame.
yea but coffee hot enough to get 3rd degree burns. I feel you but damn thats too hot. damn rite corpo can pay for her surgery. also fuck mcdonalds
Commercial coffee machines brew around 200 degrees, it isn't just McD's. I guess the issue was they were using shitty cups?
I do believe this is why McD's puts the cream and sugar in the coffee for you now, so people aren't messing around with it in the car.
