Trusted Poal folks, can a marketplace here even be safely realized? I need your ideas.

I imagine, no matter how attentive to filtering out of glows our sheriff is, this place i call home is littered with enemies. Being aware of this possible fact, is there any possible way we can do business?

I’ve been thinking about this for a long time. I made a post about this frustration many months ago. Is it possible for one of us to do business with the other in a safe and anonymous way?

For instance, Poal user A publishes a request for a smartphone upgrade. Poal user B has said gadget in a drawer he wouldn’t mind selling for a reasonable price or even gifting. How?

For something being sold, there needs to be a financial transaction. For a barter, trade, or gift, A and B need to exchange delivery addresses. For anything being given or sold, delivery addresses need to be exchanged or provided.

Is this somehow possible?

I’ve tried to figure this out, and I just don’t have a method that prevents a crazy abusing a decent person.

Sounds like a buisness proposition of a shipping escrow warehouse where the warehouse is the intermediary buying the product, getting put on the list, then sending it to the actual end user. A VPN for shipping.

E: Probably better would be a warehouse where when you buy something, it gets shipped there. Then you pay the warehouse to ship it to you. The warehouse would not open packages, only forward them. Introducing a middle man is always sketch though.

Yeah. That’s the bottleneck. Would be nice to avoid giving the fees to eBay and such but the exposure here doesn’t lend itself to a simple A-B transaction.

Anything we don’t need and one of us could use.

Let’s say one of us needed a laptop and money was tight. I have extra laptops. I’d be happy to help someone to have one.

I make hot sauce. I make soap. I wish I could just gift some to some of you guys. It just doesn’t seem like we can do anything like that. Sucks.

Too much risk of exposing your personal info.

Honestly it would be less risky to arrange a meeting in person to do a cash transaction than have your name and address exposed.

Absolutely not.

There are those out there chomping at the bit to bring us down. Won't be long before users who use the "marketplace" suddenly disappear, only to show up in the local newspaper in an orange jumpsuit under the headline "Local racist jailed for untoward commentary about pedophiles"
