you'd be able to be alerted if a link you were posting was already submitted (Poal alerts you as long as it's in the sub).
I'm thinking about adding a global alert (instead of sub only specific) to tell users which subs a link has already been submitted to and when.
If the submission has been made on the same day and you still want to post it, it will add a [xpost from ] tag at end of the post's title
, what do you think?
I like the brevity of [x ].
If the site can already detect when a url was submitted, perhaps at that juncture you could implement a native crossposting format.
Example:
The link you are attempting to submit has recently been posted in . Would you like to continue submission as a crosspost?
Answering in the affirmative would then adopt the user's title, adding "[x ]" to the end. And the link would change from the original url to the url for the comment section of the original post.
Thoughts?
Agreed.
I'll play around on the test instance.
The additional benefit might be drawing attention to the more niche subs, since a lot of the repeat urls are going to come from the bigger subs that get the highest volume of posts.
For example, someone might post a political article about Hawaii to , and then get the message alerting them it's already been posted to . If they didn't know that sub existed, they'd get a great suggestion to a sub that interests them, and it'd all just be baked into how Poal works.
One caution: I think users should still be able to opt NOT to crosspost if they don't want to. Muh freedums
xposting would be a great thing for poal to have. I can imagine a lot of ways in which it would be fun and create more visibility for smaller subs.

I've no clue why other sites like yours don't do this already.
Very interesting. Thank you.
