If instead of giving oxygen to the lungs they could do a feed out and into him draining and then refilling his own blood and oxygenating it before returning it to him. His blood would have the needed oxygen and there would be no risk of fire either since the oxygen would be in a contained system. It would also make it so they can control and maximize oxygen intake during surgery. We have the technology but they don't seem to see all the ways to use it. Hell that would be perfect for lung surgery since the lungs would not be under pressure so they can work without them moving to fill and release all the time. Make surgery a lot easier for the surgeon with a stable place to place stitches and laser seal the lungs, also the cutting would be safer without having a moving lung to operate on. Like changing a tire on a moving car to me.

Sounds like a good plan. But I really don't know enough about your idea to comment. If possible, a great solution to such ops, though.
