Removing the stigma of reporting unidentified flying objects would seem to me to be important for national security. UFO doesn't mean aliens or flying saucers, it means that there is something flying in our air space that the observer is unable to identify. Ridiculing people who report such things could prove dangerous in the long run by making people reluctant to report things that are in our air space that shouldn't be there.
