I went back to the woods yesterday for a little escape. Back at the river bottom I threw my roll of cord over a limb about 15 feet high and tied the peanut butter securely to the end. I walked up the hill and laid the string over saplings and low limbs I could reach. At the top of the hill I tied the string to a sapling and hung my "jingle bells" on it. I had to walk back down and look to see what kind of adjustment I had to make, and did that. I wanted the jar to be about eight or nine feet off the ground. I remembered to bring a leaf rake this time and raked the leaves away under the jar. The ground there is very hard and rocky and I could barely even see my own tracks. I walked up to the top of the hill and sat down. I was completely out of sight of the jar, but close enough to hear the bells. I did some tree knocks and some whoops, but Never heard any replies. I sat for over an hour just enjoying the forest sounds. Before I left I cut the cord and tied it off to a nearby tree, leaving the jar about eight or nine feet high. I walked back to where I've been baiting the feral hogs and sat for a couple of hours, but they didn't show. I had been going at night but I have discovered that the hogs are coming during the day. I'll go back in a day or two and check things out.
