It's water vapor from the atmosphere.
Air goes in the engine, the "humidity" in the air vaporizes in the hot engine, and it goes out the exhaust with the spent fuel gases.
When it hits the cold air (-30°C or colder is common at 35,000 ft.) it condenses to make a cloud.
Start your car on a cold winter day and observe the same effect.
Any secret additive would quickly destroy the engine.

Correct. What people don't understand is jet engine technology has significantly changed over time. As has fuel.
The first jets created very significant trails because tolerances were poor and jet fuel was less refined. Air fuel mixtures were manually controlled based on temp readings and adjustments were based on panel scan times and differing weather as they traveled.
In the 1970s, early computer controlled turbines entered the scene. Metallurgy, oil refinement, and engine tolerances all improved. This in turn changed engine temps and significantly changed exhaust characteristics. By the 1980s, this technology entered broad use and the nature of contrails began to change again.
By the end of the 1990s, metallurgy and computer controlled turbine efficiency changed again. As did manufacturing technology of turbine blades, allowing for amazingly tight tolerances. As did anti-freeze fuel additives. This again changed exhaust profiles and contrails.
I'm sure some level of research has taken place but it's certainly nowhere near as invasive as the conspiracy leads people to believe. For example, metal found everywhere. They claim it's in the fuel. This would be extremely abrasive and total turbine failure would be extremely common. Who would do this to multi million dollar turbines? Ignoring the fact turbines are more reliable than ever.
Actually, you don't need to be a scientist to see the changes happening in our atmosphere. The vivid sunsets are a telltale sign of particulate in our upper atmosphere. Couple the deep red and orange sunsets with the spectrometry of certain elements and you can get a good idea of what is up there.

vapor trails only happened on older, direct drive jet engines. we now use turbofan engines, they do not and cannot create vapor trails. even with the old engines vapor trails were not very common. required very specific atmospheric conditions.

I come back around noon and lunch and smoke a bit more outside, the same trails are there, they grow and ALWAYS gravitate toward the SUN shining brightly. By 2pm smoke break, the sky is grey, the entire visible sky. It doesnt rain either, not black clouds. Grey like snowclouds in the midwest, but ofc no snow either.

Contrails dissipate in moments, not even minutes, chasing right behind the plane. I was alive in the 90s. I remember. These things stay for hours and create cloud cover without rain and block out the sun.
I had heard of chemtrails but only later I saw my first ones, in San Deigo, which were massive, it looked like a ballistic missile but slower, I was so relieved to see they were huge planes. For a hot second I thought a war had started. It was the DAY AFTER Fukushima happened and everything was tense. Then it kept going for years, I had been in San Diego for 5 years at the time, I had never seen anything like it until then and it continued until I left.
The ones folks photograph and yikes about, are these growing ones, I can vouch for that part, I've seen it, I've sat in my car and watched it. I've clocked it throughout the day in my routine, casually observing and going "hmmm, thats odd"

It isnt copypasta, I saw these things and I was establishing a timeframe for when 1 - I had never seen them before and 2 - they are seen frequently after... that day. I do not know if those items are related, but it sure seems odd.

Since that time, I have moved fairly often, more than usual, which is when I witnessed the same in those other places I mentioned.
I'm not from San Diego, I grew up all over America and I've traveled to plenty of far away lands as well, for extended stays and duty.
Never until that day, had I seen anything, anywhere, like the ones I've seen since.
They draw them in the sky, clearly coming off the planes, they(streams) turn on and off, they linger in the air longer than any self respecting contrail, they spread and join together, they follow the sun across the local sky as if responding to it and by evening completely blot it out.
I'd also call it odd, that most of this has stopped or been less frequent for the last 2 years, but does appear to still be occurring.

Chem trails are absolutely real just google weather modification confirmed. They fly in grid patterns and the trails last for hours not minutes
