I don't know what it is. I can think of a number of ways something like this could be faked. But I don't see the "telltale signs of cgi rendering" that you are talking about.

It's just stuff you pick up from knowing video editing / rendering software. The perfect pan, little inhumanly timed zoom-in and out, perfect tracking, textures are life-like but uncanny valley, reflections aren't natural, etc.

You often see stuff like this as a sort of resume for animation software. It's practically a mark of achievement when a person can convince others that their particular UFO video is real. It's like a turing test for designers/editors/CGI guys. I'll bet real coin that someone could one-person DIY a real-looking explosion, layer it with some filters or screen shake, perhaps even well done sound effects and it'd be believable for the short attention span people have these days.

Again, it's a "you see it" or you don't type scenario. I'm sure if such mutant blobs existed they'd be all over shitty pop sites, or with various other forms spotted elsewhere. It's cool though, as far as animations go. Believe what you want, but imo there's really no sense in thinking this is real, is all.
