My guess is he cooks in the evening and a CO leak from the flue knocks him out and he leaves the oven on. The smoke alarm goes through some sort of daily reset routine at midnight and is triggered by the smoke from the oven. The CO is making him hallucinate even the next morning as it lingers in the brain.

Yep. I had a leak once. Shot got really crazy. I thought my cat was talking to me, my landlord was breaking into the home that I own, and I kept pestering people for dick pics on the internet. I think I fixed it, but still, I swear. Every now and then my cat asks for the rent and tells me to log into voat as maroon something and ask for dick pics.
