There is a long history with this group. Have you listened to the series by William Cooper? He had a radio show back in the 90's and delved into a few topics. He's missing some key points about the jews, but I can confirm most of his research on the freemasons, etc is pretty spot on. On another note, some good stuff on the Illuminati was discussed by back in 1967. I've looked at a bunch of literature on this subject as well, and can tell you a couple of important things that you are for sure on to.

The thing is, they appear to be Gnostics. While there is some merit in Gnosticism, there are a couple of "traps" that catches people for the worse.

1) Heaven on earth. This idea of searching for a utopia makes people subvert the world for a one world NWO. People fall for shit like communism, or mass vaccinations, for example.

2) You can be god. This one has people participating in all kinds of evil rituals to try and "gain power". This can lead to the idea of "illumination" or "ascendance" or "evolution theory" or "transhumanism" to name a few.

In reality, the whole "trying to be wise and virtuous" thing is worthwhile, and the story of Jesus actually parallels this in about half of the New Testament quite well. However, the rituals and ascensions (consider froshing for at fraternities, orgies, rape, or bribes) are loaded with mind control and "brotherly bonding" that just trap people. So, they get people into the cabal with promises 1 and 2, above only to get trapped in the organization and forced to subvert the world further and deeper. For example, consider Epstein Island.

Way at the top of this secret society, there is a group that most likely have no religion, don't care about money per se, but only want power and total world enslavement. In this way, the William Cooper series defines it all quite nicely (he gives many references too, which are 100,000 pages of reading I'd recommend).

On another note about the traps, there is another common trap of subversion I've learned to identify.

3) Put it off, the higher power will get to it. This has many facets, such as "god will judge them, not you" or the "trust the plan, Qanon" nonsense. Money is a half measure of action in a kind of way as well, which makes our actions not fully have virtue (i.e. saving for a rainy day). In these cases, often the payoff or judgement never comes, and the "bad" people get away with their shit and others don't take action in the moment that makes the most difference.

If you can litmus test for those three "types" you'll catch most traps of subversion. I can find at least one of the three almost everywhere. When I find it, I then follow the money and almost every time it leads back to The World Bank, the Vatican, or Israel (in one way or another). There are definite links of those three together so it's pretty clear to see it's a small group.
