Its illegal in many countries. It should be illegal in the US as well and especially so for valuable land like farmland or land with other resources on them... (all) land.
It should also be illegal for private business to own massive amounts of "useful" land too.. IE. Lets buy up all of the farm land and turn it into houses.. because that makes so much fucking sense.

Monopolies are always illegal and That applies here.
