Interestingly enough Ben Browder and Claudia Black were originally cast for Atlantis but SG-1 got picked up again. The writers themselves considered the first 8 seasons a separate series from the last 2 as the main casting decisions were intended for Atlantis. Joe Flannigan on SG-Atlantis was actually their 2nd choice for that role after Ben Browder.
