Indeed. See edited comment XD
I bought the coop as a present for my wife. She had been going back and forth about "Maybe we should have chickens, but should we really?" This went on for a while until one day I just ordered the coop, built it, we got some chickens and it's good for our souls to have them.
The eggs are a useful by-product. If you can, have some animals around. They ground you. She's gotten very sick and it's one of the things keeping her going, although she'd probably not admit to it.
We only feed them good stuff and kitchen leftovers. The four out of five that still lay eggs, produce more than we currently use and when we give some away, people are always impressed by their taste compared to even expensive organic ones.
Not having to go outside every day to close up the coop is a convenience feature, especially in winter and when it has rained for days and the ground has become a mud pit.
I guess that door is cheap when you put it that way. I wish your wife's health the best. Coup eggs really are delicious. The most expensive eggs at the grocery store are close but certainly not the same. Thanks for sharing your perspective, it changed mine a little bit.
:) No worries fren. And thank you so much for the nice wishes!
