I stated this in s/movies, but I think all star wars matters. You don't have to like every movie or piece of media that comes out, but it's all part of the history of the star wars franchise now. It's like the star wars holiday special or star wars: droids. They suck, but we can look back on them and talk about them without getting overly emotional. I just don't understand why these "fans" that have been bitching and moaning since the phantom menace even still watch star wars.

I love the prequels. For all their faults, I think they really "open up" the star wars universe. The clone wars tv show expands it even more. I was a kid when the prequels came out. The nostalgia is real.

I liked Episode 1 on its own merits

I like it. It introduces the jedi council, the jedi temple. Young obi wan. Darth maul! The podracing was cool. And I'm a big apologist for the gungans. I liked the war between the gungans and the battle droids.
