It was a good line though and set the tone for Spocks command and leadership style, logic.

Oh I agree that the line advanced the plot and made the other crewmen distrust Spock as a leader even more. What i can't abide is that they had the money to make that show but they couldn't bother to, you know, pop open the F volume of their Encyclopedia Brittanica and look at an actual picture of a Folsom Point before they made a prop that utilized Core-Style flint knapping techniques instead of Flake-Style flint knapping techniques, which is sort of what the Folsom Point is famous for among archaeologists.

Agreed, they probably went with a prop that was already made in the prop shop instead of creating a Folsom point to cut costs (pure speculation on my part, no facts.) But the episode writer clearly knew what it was and the archeological implications. Most Star Trek episodes where written by very talented writers

Yeah, the writing on the old Trek show was often sublime. But occasionally ridiculous, especially in Season 3.
