Merry Christmas Voyager. Living proof that DEI/ESG/Affirmative Action/etc is garbage. This is what American Excellence created. I am Bias because I had family that worked on that project but it is still amazing.

Also, the DSN is maintained by some old timers that basically are the last people that really understand how it works, unless that has changed in the last 8-ish years. We need young people taking up this work and learning from the masters before we lose them. Humanity has already forgotten so much it would be a crime to lose this too.

More of stuff like this, Less money for shit like "DEI/Trans/Shadow Wars/etc".

>NASA uses the [Earth-based] Deep Space Network (DSN) to communicate with its spacecraft, but the global array of giant radio antennas is optimized for higher frequency signals. Though NASA's DSN antennas are capable of detecting S-band missives from Voyager — it can also communicate in X-band — the spacecraft's signal can appear to drop due to how far Voyager is from Earth. The Dwingeloo telescope, on the other hand, is designed for observing at lower frequencies than the 8.4 gigahertz telemetry transmitted by Voyager 1, according to the C.A. Muller Radio Astronomy Station... [W]hen Voyager 1 switched to a lower frequency, its messages fell within Dwingeloo's frequency band. Thus, the astronomers took advantage of the spacecraft's communication glitch to listen in on its faint signals to NASA.

I read the title as it was discovered that a telescope was used in the 1950s that ended up detecting what would later be realized as Voyager 1's signals. This is still cool but I was really excited about time travel there for a moment.
