I still wonder a lot about the monetary and economic potential of asteroid mining. On one hand, it destroys any notion of a gold standard and the initial investment is questionable when you're more likely to end up with a whole bunch of devalued nickel rather than the shinies. On the other, way less environmental impact as it renders strip mining obsolete.
