While viewing out of focus images of stars can be [useful](https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/532625-intra-extra-focal-diffraction-ring-differences/), generally it's better to have it only slightly out of focus, and good seeing (lack of heat waves in the atmosphere) to detect flaws in your optics. Whoever thinks the stars actually look like this has a room temperature I.Q. In Celsius yet!
