Looks like thermal contraction. I could give them a better design in 30 seconds that wouldn’t do that but would maintain structural rigidity.

Already have replacement transfer pipes on site for install.

Lots of design are done on purpose to collect data, it's far more accurate than a computer simulation and it doesn't cost much (per Elon Musk).

That's why they are designing several different prototypes/iterations of Starship (booster and ship).

Sure, but that’s a amateur grade mistake. Better data is collected when you push things further with a better design to start and then optimize. The more talented a designer is the higher the rate that prototype 1 does the job needed and then you optimize for improvements, cost, repair ability, better safety margin.
