The SLS is going to MAKE America money. Every single NASA project from Voyager to the moon landing turned a PROFIT. For every single dollar we give NASA, NASA returns it to our economy in the form of 40 dollars. SpaceX saves NASA money which means less economic return. Sometimes thats a good thing, like when you need to launch to the ISS every single month with experiments and supplies which are more expensive than the rocket launching them. In such a case SpaceX makes logical sense. But when you need to lift a city worth of supplies to the moon you can forget about private space contractors unless they are the ones designing containers or landing craft.
